PM inaugurated new Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport

On Saturday at 10.40 am, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated new Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The inauguration was done at a function in the presence of Sonia Gandhi, (United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson accompanied by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit chief minister of Delhi, K Rosaiah chief minister of Andhra Pradesh , Civil aviation minister Praful Patel and chairman of GMR group G M Rao.

The new Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport is the sixth largest terminal in the world after the countries Bangkok, Dubai,Beijing, Singapore and Mexico city. It is widely spread over 5.4 million square feet.

Terminal 3 has 92 automatic walkways and five-level baggage screening system that handles 12,800 bags per hour. There are 168 check-in counters and 78 aero-bridges. New terminal is based on advanced IT techniques with an eight-lane approach road from the city. The terminal has a high speed metro rail link that connects it to the city. It is an environmentally friendly terminal with multi-level car parking for around 4,300 cars.
